Getting your book into the National Library of Australia
Let's make it as accessible as possible!
I’m happy my book is selling, although I’m definitely not making a profit. I knew going into this that the likelihood of living off my writing was slim so I’m not at all disappointed!
At the end of the day, what I want most of all is easier access to my book, which means wider distribution. And so while my book is for sale in paperback at a few indie bookstores as well as being available online, I want to make sure it will be easier for libraries to order it in.
I love libraries and have a few memberships to different ones but I rarely borrow books because I MUST OWN ALL THE BOOKS!! It’s a silly (and privileged) impulse, tbh. And I actually don’t own all the books anyway—physical books, at least—because I read about 3 books per week and have no space in my home to store them all. So they’re still tangibly intangible (or intangibly tangible?) living in my ebook reader.
ANYWAY. I’m about to submit my book to Australia’s libraries, and I thought I’d share the process so any other self-published authors in AU will be able to use the information.
